عقل و احساس (به انگلیسی: Sense and Sensibility) که با نام حس و حساسیت نیز در ایران شناخته می‌شود، اولین رمان جین آستین، نویسندهٔ انگلیسی، است که در سال ۱۸۱۱ منتشر شد. آستین نسخهٔ اولیهٔ این رمان عاشقانه را در سال ۱۷۹۵، وقتی ۲۰ سال داشت، نوشت. ابتدا نام کتاب الینور و ماریان بود. آستین در سال ۱۷۹۷ و احتمالاً ۱۸۰۹ رمان را بازنویسی کرد و نام آن را به عقل و احساس تغییر داد. در سال ۱۸۱۱ این کتاب با نام مستعار «لیدی ال» و با هزینهٔ شخصی نویسنده منتشر شد. تا سوم ژوئیه ۱۸۱۲، ۱۰۰۰ نسخه از کتاب به فروش رفت و در سال ۱۸۱۲ تجدید چاپ شد.

Sense and Sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen, and was her first published work when it appeared in 1811 under the pseudonym "A Lady". A work of romantic fiction, better known as a comedy of manners, Sense and Sensibility is set in southwest England, London and Kent between 1792 and 1797, and portrays the life and loves of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne. The novel follows the young ladies to their new home, a meagre cottage on a distant relative's property, where they experience love, romance and heartbreak.

The story is more about the spirit of the holidays than about the holidays themselves, harking back to the first in the series, A Christmas Carol. The tale centres on a Professor Redlaw and those close to him.
